5 Fun & Educational Chalk Games That'll Have Kids Playing Outdoors

Who doesn’t love chalk... or have a million pieces of chalk?? Anyone with small children is bound to have collected buckets of multi-colored chalk anywhere from birthday goody bags to “Oh look what I can find for a $1” weakness moments at the store. Put them to good use with these fun (and educational!) activities to enjoy with your kids. Check out some of the following easy, free and entertaining chalk games:

SHADOW FACES
This game can be pretty funny! Have your child stand so that their shadow is cast at a good angle. Draw a face on their ‘shadow head’ and add a bow or a hat. Have them hold their arm out to cast a shadow beside their face so you can add a fairy wand, flower, or sword coming from their ‘hand shadow.’ The kids will think it is hilarious!

TREASURE HUNT
Write a list on the pavement of things for the kids to go find in the yard. Draw a circle under each item for the kids to place the treasure once they have found it. They will love admiring all their findings in one neat spot!

ALPHABET TWISTER
Write the alphabet in a square formation. Call out which hand or foot to place on which letter. Kids will have a blast giggling in all kinds of funny positions! *This could also be done with colors for younger children not familiar with all the letters.

MATH CHALK
This is a fun, educational activity for kids learning math. Draw several math equations based on your child’s math level, but don’t write the answers. For example, write 2+3 and call out “Jump to the equation that equals 5!” As the game progresses, call the numbers out faster and faster. This is great mental and physical activity all in one!

ACTIVITY LINE
Draw different pictures and instructions for the kids to perform when they are standing on each individual picture. For example, draw a cluster of music notes and tell each child when they jump on that spot they must sing a favorite song as loud as they can.
