Spider Cookies ~ A Spooktacular Treat for Halloween

By Jennifer Boaz, Lenoir NC Mom & MacKid Guest Writer October 20, 2016

Halloween is fast approaching, so I decided to have a fun afternoon with my girls making some super-cute spider cookies. These yummy treats showed up on Facebook recently, and they turned out to be a bigger hit than I expected with my girls! Look no further for a spook-takular treat for classroom parties and Halloween get-togethers!

Ingredients:

  • 1 package sugar cookie mix (You go girl if they are from scratch!)
  • Miniature peanut butter cups (package of 12 or more)
  • Edible Candy eyes (We found ours at Wal-Mart.)
  • ¼ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Make cookies according to package directions.
  2. After removing cookies from oven, allow to cool slightly. Before they are completely cool, take the bottom of a tablespoon measurer and gently make an indention in the center of the cookie.
  3. While the cookies are cooling completely, melt the chocolate chips in the microwave. Be sure to use a microwave-safe bowl and only heat in 30 second increments. Stir between heating increments.
  4. Once chocolate is melted, put in a zippered sandwich baggie and seal. Cut a very small diagonal opening on one corner to allow a small stream of chocolate to come through.
  5. Place a thin strip of melted chocolate around the largest side of the peanut butter cup and place on indention in sugar cookie. The chocolate acts as ‘glue’ to help the peanut butter cup stick to the cookie. Note: If you try to do this step while the cookie is still warm, the peanut butter cup will melt.
  6. Add a dot of chocolate to each edible candy eye and stick to the peanut butter cup.
  7. Make eight chocolate spider legs on either side of the peanut butter cup.
  8. Allow chocolate to set and enjoy!
