What you need:
- cardboard (we used a cereal box)
- aluminum foil
- pipe cleaners *
or
- glitter or glitter glue *
- glue
- scissors and wire cutters
- ribbon or string or yarn
- hole punch or pencil
What to do:
- Draw or trace a circle on a piece of cardboard and cut it out.
- Cut pieces of pipe cleaner using wire cutters (can use yarn instead of pipe cleaner but it's harder to work with) and glue the message onto the cardboard.
- Cover with tin foil, front and back. Press over and around the words to make them stand out.

- Punch a hole at the top (or make a hole with a pencil) and thread string, yarn or ribbon through the hole and tie in a knot to hang the medal on a necklace.
* Making the letters out of pipe cleaners isn't an easy task for a child, and once we wrapped the foil around the letters, the wire poked through in spots. As an easier alternative, we used glitter glue to write the message on a cardboard circle wrapped in foil. The glue doesn't stick very easily to foil so we had to reglue a letter the next day, but finally it did dry and turned out better and easier to read than the pipe cleaner method. *
