In monotheistic faiths such as Christianity, Islam and Judaism, angels are servants of God, acting as intermediaries between heaven and earth. They are a symbol of good and hope. Christmas is thus a great time for making angel crafts and below we use simple materials to make angel ornaments using wooden clothes pegs, pasta and ribbon.
Materials needed:
Makes 1 angel
- wooden clothes peg
- 2 cone shaped pasta pieces such as gigli or fusilli
- bead like pasta or couscous
- hot or tacky glue
- 4" long floral wire
- white ribbon or tulle netting or felt
- black fine tip marker (red optional)
- white, gold or silver paint (optional)
- white, gold or silver pipe cleaner (optional)
- bow shaped pasta such as farfalle (optional)
- gold or silver sequins (optional)
What to do:
- Using fine markers, paint a face on the rounded top of a clothes peg.
- Glue the bead pasta onto the top of the clothes peg for hair. You may choose to make a halo for the angel out of a piece of pipe cleaner. Glue the halo on top of the angel's pasta-covered head.
- You may choose to paint the rest of the clothes peg white for the body (optional). Allow to dry.
- Make a robe for the angel by gluing a piece of ribbon, tulle or felt around the clothes peg. You may choose to glue gold or silver sequins for buttons on the robe (optional).
- Make a bow shape out of the white ribbon/netting/felt for the wings. Wrap the piece of floral wire around the middle of the bow and shape a hook at the top to make a hanger for the ornament. Glue the wings in place in the back of the angel. Optional: you may choose to use a piece of bow shaped pasta painted white, silver or gold for the wings instead.
- Glue the cone shaped pasta in place for the angel's arms. You may choose to paint the pasta ahead of time (optional).
- Repeat to make a bunch to cover your tree for decoration!
