Getting Organized ~ Desk & Paper Clutter

Recycle empty cereal boxes to make a paper sorter

By Anna Hall, Hickory NC Publisher Mom January 10, 2013

I came across this project a little while ago and it's perfect for helping me get organized in the new year.  It's a quick craft that requires basic materials and I love being able to repurpose something I'd otherwise throw away (ok, recycle).  We go through a lot of cereal in our house and I have enough boxes to make a few of these, experimenting with different designs.  Below are instructions for making a simple mail sorter, like an in/out box, but you can cut the boxes to different heights to make an upright sorter as well.

Materials needed:

  • 2-3 cereal boxes (I used 3)
  • scissors
  • glue
  • decorative paper
  • clear tape
  • decorative duct tape or ribbon
What to do:

- Glue the fronts of cereal boxes together and allow to dry.  I like to use clothes pins to hold the boxes in place as they dry.  Cut off top flaps of the boxes.

- Cover the outside with decorative paper of your choice.

- I used decorative duck tape to cover up the edges.  You can fold in extra paper around the edges or use other paper or ribbon instead.

Have fun decorating and organizing!
