Hickory Community Theatre's production of the classic musical "Les Miserables" opens May 9th in the Jeffers Theater in downtown Hickory. The fourteen show run continues through June 1 with performances at 7:30pm on Thursdays, 8pm Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30pm Sundays.
The musical is epic in its scope: the size of the cast, the sweep of its musical score and the breadth of time it covers in a story that takes place over 15 years. Epic, grand and uplifting, Les Miserables packs an emotional wallop that has been thrilling audiences around the world for over thirty years! Modern audiences find relevance in this story of a man condemned to be an outcast the rest of his life for stealing a loaf of bread to feed a starving child. When his attempt at a new life after prison fails, he is forced to live on the run until he finally finds redemption in his selfless rescue of the young student with whom his adopted daughter is in love.
An adaptation of the world-famous stage musical and based on an 1862 classic novel by Victor Hugo, Les Miserables is a story of justice, duty, love and war. The heart-breaking tale involves difficult topics of poverty, prostitution, corruption, death and suicide that may not be appropriate for children under the age of 13. Overall, the story sends a powerful message of love, faith, compassion, redemption and mercy.
The 31 member cast is headed by Jeff Hartman as the fugitive Jean Valjean and William E. Morgan playing his nemesis, the Inspector Javert. Featured are Nathan Crabtree, Edyth Pruitt, Carol Anne Hartman, Grace A. Bollinger, Emily Stober, Ingrid Anna-Lisa Keller, Kaylen Hall, Joshua Howard Yoder, David Townsend, Marcus Phillips, Jeff Manus and J. David Ingle. Also featured are Paul David Kurts, Eric Stafford, Tad Fulbright, David Huffman, Clay M. Hennessee, Jared Kuhn, Jimmy Kurts, Jairo A. Pereira, and Jeremy Whitener. In the women’s ensemble are Heather Baynes, Marietta Burke, Linda LR Campbell, Joan Coppinger, Helena Hoyle, Emma Lee Kurts, Jen Wilson and Beth Woodard.
