Vote for Catawba Valley Women's Show's Queen for a Day!

August 21, 2014

The Catawba Valley Women’s Show will pick a “Queen for a Day” on September 7, the last day of the two-day event at the Hickory Metro Convention Center. We've taken your entries/nominations and our panel of participating show exhibitors has selected the ten semi-finalists listed below; now it's your turn to help us narrow it down to the final three.

Voting closed Sunday, August 31.

We will reveal the three finalists on Sept. 4, and the winner will be chosen live at the show on Sept. 7. Winner will receive an array of products and services provided by participating show exhibitors for a day of pampering and prizes on September 7th as Catawba Valley Women Show's "Queen for a Day."

Meet our 10 semi-finalists:

Amber

I would absolutely love to win the Queen for a Day. We have hit a rough patch here lately with 3 kids our youngest son had to be hospitalized at Levines Children's Hospital for almost a week and have surgery to open his airway. He was having apnea spells and a constant wheeze. Just to have a day to pamper and get myself back to normal would be absolutely wonderful!

Dawn

The reason I nominate myself is because I am a very lucky and hardworking mom, not unlike alot of moms. My husband is not home very often so it is mostly just the 2 of us.  I feel so very blessed to have my son, he and I stay very active and have so much fun together.  I didn't have a mom so I am trying my hardest to be the very best mom I can-he is my world and is such a wonderful son. Of course all moms need a good pampering though!

Emily
I would love to be pampered for a day on September 7th (which will be my 8th anniversary). I am a wife and mother of 2 (1 and 4 year old boys) and a full time student @ Gardner Webb University. The past couple of years I have taken less and less time for myself to pamper and be a "queen for the day" partly due to the tight funds and would rather "spoil" my children with the extra than myself. I would like to thank you for the opportunity to be pampered and I know whoever is chosen as the winner will be grateful and deserve it as well.

Joanna
In addition to having their hands full with three energetic sons, Joanna and her husband are foster parents to children in need in our local area. This is just one of the ways this teacher helps others in need. Through her Thirty-One Gifts business, Joanna always seeks ways to give back, organizing fundraisers and donations to local schools and agencies. For all that she gives of herself to others, Joanna is an ideal candidate to be Catawba Valley Women's Show's Queen for a Day.

Kelly

I would like to nominate my daughter-in-law for the Queen for a Day contest. She is a fantastic mom to my 3-yr old grandson, Calen and a patient, caring wife to my son, Mark, all while working as a CNA and going to nursing school. She doesn't slow down and is always willing to jump in and help anyone any way she can. I would love to see her get pampered for a day!

Martha
I'd like to nominate my friend, Martha Propst to be pampered as a "Queen for day".   About a year and a half ago, my friend was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer.  About the same time, within months of each other, both of her parents passed away.   She has had to work through her loss, her health issues and take over her parents business.   Martha is a strong, kind-hearted, caring, selfless person, who will persevere with anything handed her way.   She is someone I look up to and is an inspiration to me and all who surround her.  I am thankful to have her in my life and she is deserving of a day of pampering!

Michelle

I have a very strong, brave and wonderful wife. She has Alopecia; it is a disease where you lose all of your hair everywhere. She is very strong about this situation and I am very proud of her.

Miranda
Miranda is an amazing, full of life, 30 year old mother of three. She has two young sons ages 3 and 5, as well as a step-son who is 14. She’s married to Tim, and was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 Breast Cancer. She underwent a mastectomy in July.
Over the past year, this family has experienced multiple difficult situations. To name a few, their family business was destroyed by a flood, both she had her husband lost their jobs, they lost Tim’s brother to cancer, and many other extremely trying situations.
Miranda has faced each of those situations, as well as her most recent diagnosis, with her head held high. She offers a ready smile, and always goes out of her way to help those around her. She has a strong desire to serve others and brings joy to all those that know her. She is an amazing mother, wife, friend, and person.
This past year has been so hard, and as she is just in the beginning stages of her cancer diagnosis, she is getting ready to begin both chemotherapy and radiation. Having her selected as “queen for a day” would remind her how very loved she is, and give her a break from the extremely difficult days she is facing. I hope and pray that you will consider her for this honor- she is so deserving and we desperately want her to know how much she means to so many that know her.

Nikki
I would absolutely love to be a queen for a day! I am a single mom of three boys, two whom live with me. My oldest is out on his own. Last month my husband decided he no longer wanted to be married and left me and the two boys at home to struggle. Luckily, the family care center, had housing available for us. As a stay at home mom, it is now time to go back to the workforce to provide for my boys and myself. It has been almost a year since I have had my haircut, couldn't tell you the last time I bought myself an outfit besides the goodwill outlet. As I have struggled with depression and anxiety most of my life, this would be a huge pick me up and self esteem booster given the turmoil my life has been in for the last month!

Terri
I'd like to nominate my sister, Terri, for Queen for the Day.  I could list a million reasons why, but I'll try and sum it up in just a few.
My sister is a single mother and has always worked hard, with no help, to take care of her son.  She is currently putting him through college.  She has never complained because being a mom is the most important thing in her life.  He swims competitively, and she has never missed a meet, whether in high school, local/national championships, and now in college. She arranges her schedule to be able to attend.
TT, as she is lovingly called by my kids, is the best aunt ever.  She tries to make every birthday, awards day, plays, talent show, ballgames, wherever she can, and ALWAYS has a camera in hand to document every moment of their lives.  For all of her nieces and nephews, she is always working hard to make sure they have everything they need.  She's the kind of aunt that will get down in the floor with you, play catch with you, and snuggle up and read you bedtime stories.
The only thing my sister ever does for herself is go to church.  She never buys anything new, takes time for herself.  I think she deserves it because she goes above and beyond for everyone else, except herself.
