"An apple a day keeps the doctor away."  You probably already know that apples are a nutritional powerhouse, rich in important antioxidants, flavanoids, vitamin C, and dietary fiber. Apple picking is a fantastic activity to enjoy with the family each fall and a great opportunity to take a child outside.  Plus buying locally grown apples ensures you are getting the freshest, best tasting fruit.  So we dedicate this newsletter issue to the beloved apple and encourage you to plan an outing to a local orchard soon!

Apple Hill Orchard in Morganton is a favorite with our family (you must try the apple donuts!) but before you head out there, be sure to check out our apple picking tips. Then use the fruit in recipes such as these applesauce muffins or even for crafts to make these adorable apple butterflies. This and more awaits in this newsleter issue; refer to the table of contents for all that is inside.

The arrival of fall brings with it weekends filled with activities and happenings all around the area.  This weekend, check out the Viewmont Street Strut, South Mountains State Park's Nature Day, Bootleggers Bash for Autism or any of the 45+ events on our calendar for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Plan ahead by entering to win tickets to the upcoming LEAF Festival mid-October.  New events are constantly being added to our event calendar so check it often and stay tuned to our Facebook page for the latest updates.

Have a great week!
