Each year, I wait with eager anticipation for the first signs of fall. Sure, the calendar may say that autumn officially begins toward the end of September, but it isn't until the temperature cools off, the air feels crisp and clean, and the leaves on trees begin to burst with color when fall truly makes its presence known. After some research, I can confidently say that this year, that time will come this week. This very weekend is shaping up to be the perfect weekend for experiencing fall's beauty. After a rainy start, the week will end with ideal weather so don't miss this opportunity to get outside and enjoy a perfect autumn day.
Our event calendar is jam-packed with fun festivals such as Taylorsville's Apple Festival and Statesville's BalloonFest, and the annual Catawba County Agri-Tourism Day is another fun option to experience the best of fall at a local farm. Biologists at App State predict peak colors to occur this week in the Blowing Rock/Boone area, making it the perfect time to squeeze in a trip up the mountain for leaf peeping. But should the weather not cooperate, bring fall inside by whipping up a batch of pumpkin play dough or choosing something from our list of 60+ awesome autumn activities. Also, make plans to catch one of the two public performances of "The Wind in the Willows" at the Hickory Community Theatre; we'll help by giving away a set of tickets! I, meanwhile, will miss this perfect weekend in North Carolina as I head out for the annual Macaroni Kid Meet-Up this year taking place in Las Vegas. It will be three days to connect, refresh, network, and learn with a little time to spare for enjoying the scenery and amenities at our host location, the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa. Hopefully fall here in North Carolina will stay a while to allow me to take a raincheck to enjoy the perfect autumn day next weekend.
