“The Wind in the Willows,” the Hickory Community Theatre’s youth production, presents two public performances during its run of daytime school presentations, with matinees on Sunday October 19 and Saturday October 25 both at 2:30pm at Jeffers Theatre in downtown Hickory. Presented for young audiences by young actors, this stage version of the children's classic by Kenneth Grahame has all your favorite characters - Mole, Rat, Badger, Mr. Toad and of course lots of weasels and ferrets. The 1908 novel is a story of adventure, morality and friendship. What begins as a peaceful summer on the River is soon disrupted by Toad and his obsession with motorcars. After crashing several cars, he then steals one and lands himself in jail. His friends Mole, Badger, and Water Rat make every effort to protect Toad’s home, Toad Hall, but are instead ousted by the Ferrets and Weasels of the Wild Wood. Will Toad escape from jail and regain Toad Hall?
Don't miss this fun adaptation written by Pamela Livingstone and directed by Edyth Pruitt, starring seventeen young local actors. "It is exciting for young students to see other students perform this classic literature, " said Pruitt. "The tale of these unlikely friends and their adventures appeals to them all so much.” The running time of the play is about one hour and it is intended for elementary school age audiences.
