I got the chance to take my 8 yr old daughter and her friend to SunCrest Water Park recently, and we had a wonderful time. Because it is a naturally spring fed water resort, there has been some flood damage to parts of the park due to extreme amounts of rain the area has been getting. That did not dampen the fun though! The park is less than 25 miles from Hickory and you can be there in less than 45 minutes of beautiful back road driving.
Once there, you will pass by the concession stand which has sweet treats and cold drinks available if you forgot to bring your own food and/or cooler (no alcohol allowed). The water is brisk but not freezing, just the right temperature to battle the summer heat. The depth ranges from a couple inches to about 6 feet at its deepest. There are 6 slides that vary in intensity to appeal to all ages. There is also a rope swing and volleyball net available to provide excitement. Life guards are on duty to keep things safe.
The property is beautifully landscaped and offers plenty of shade as well as tables and chairs when you want to dry off or eat. "Rustic" restroom facilities are available. Although it is not the most modern facility, it is a great option for local family fun on a hot summer day. Check them out and please tell them you read about it on Macaroni Kid!
