TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK ~ A Pencil Vase & Other Gift Ideas

By Jennifer Hill, Fremont CA Publisher April 30, 2015
National Teacher Day, designated by the National Education Association as "a day for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives," is celebrated each year on Tuesday during Teacher Appreciation Week, which takes place in the first full week of May.

This year, Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4-8, 2015, with Tuesday, May 5 being National Teacher Day. Need a unique gift idea for your child's teacher to let them know how much you appreciate them? How about this home-made pencil vase?

What you need:
  • Tall vase or a recycled jar about 7 ½ inches tall (I found my vase at Dollar Tree!)
  • 40-50 pencils
  • Hot glue
  • Hot glue gun
  • Ribbon
  • Flowers
What you do:
  1. Using hot glue, attach pencils to vase.  (I liked the look with the eraser side down better, but feel free to experiment with pencil placement.)
  2. Tie a ribbon around the pencils.
  3. Add fresh flowers and water.
  4. Share with your favorite teacher!
