Where to Find Catawba Valley Strawberries, Picked or Pick Your Own

April 20, 2023

Strawberry picking is a popular and wonderful family activity in the spring, providing quality time together in the outdoors. Not only is picking berries lots of fun, it yields a delicious and nutritious fruit for the family to enjoy for days to come. Strawberries are a true superfruit like other richly colored berries, providing nutrients and antioxidants, such as Vitamin C, fiber, potassium, and folic acid. So picking and eating berries is good for the family!

May is Strawberry Month in North Carolina! Here in the western part of the state, harvest generally starts late April to early May and remains open for 5-8 weeks. Cool spring weather extends the season while hot weather, especially in May, shortens it. North Carolina ranks third in US strawberry production with almost all of the fruit produced sold directly to customers via farm stands, pick your own farms, or local supermarkets.

Whether you pick-your-own or buy pre-picked, here are a few local places to get the freshest fruit. Call ahead for availability as dates and availability vary by location and based on season/weather conditions. Add to this list!
