Hickory Aviation Museum at Hickory Airport ~ Free Admission

April 28, 2016

The Hickory Aviation Museum is a non-profit organization staffed by dedicated volunteers with a common obsession: the love of aviation! It is located at the Hickory Regional Airport at 3101 9th Avenue Drive NW in Hickory in the Phil Yount Terminal Building on the left side as you drive in. Admission is free for a wonderful outing the whole family will enjoy. Youngsters of all ages can sit in the pilot’s seat and dream!

Our Hickory Aviation Museum contains a treasure of information for the young and old, for those who seek knowledge about flying, for those who desire to preserve the history of our military aircraft, for those who wish to honor our veterans and aviation heroes, and for those that want to enjoy the past and learn about the future. The museum vision statement is “Preserve, Honor, Educate.”

We as a group are dedicated to maintaining the facts and truths of the Golden Age of Aviation. Aviation artifacts and memorabilia from 14 great airplanes and noteworthy aviation figures are on display. The Museum is also a gathering place for veterans of all wars and services to meet, tell stories, enjoy camaraderie or just hang out. This creates a priceless opportunity for the younger generation to learn and appreciate what their forebears contributed to the aviation history of this great nation of ours.

The Museum is always growing. We add new exhibits and aircraft on a regular basis. Come see us; you don’t need a background in aviation, just an interest and the will to learn. Bring the youngsters along! Who knows, they could be future aviators. Hickory Aviation Museum is open Tuesdays through Fridays 10am-3pm, Saturdays 10am-4pm or Sundays 1-4pm.

We invite you to come visit and even become a member of the Hickory Aviation Museum. We are always in need of volunteers in all capacities, to meet and greet the public, restore and repair aircraft, work on social media, conduct tours for school children and guests through the museum. There are no paid employees at the museum; our dedicated volunteers have developed, maintained, and proudly invited the public through the doors of history at no cost. No aviation experience is necessary. If you are interested in aviation or want to learn about aviation, we can use you. Any hours would be greatly appreciated and we guarantee you will be rewarded with pleasure, fun and pride. With your help, we can all preserve the past for future generations to come.
