Splash Pad at Kiwanis Park in Hickory ~ A Review

By Rochelle Walton, Hickory NC Mom & MacKid Guest Writer July 14, 2016

Summer in Hickory just got even more fun with the opening of the new splash pad at Kiwanis Park. Located at 805 6th St. SE, it is close to the beautiful Zahra Baker All Children’s Playground and Kiwanis Park baseball fields. The new splash pad is full of fun for kids of all ages; from tiny bubblers to a giant bucket of water, there are so many opportunities for water play while cooling off from the summer's heat!

Here are 5 reasons your family will love the Kiwanis Splash Pad:

  1. The splash pad has incorporated awesome water features that are interactive and novel. It has so many innovative elements to keep kids entertained. Enjoy streams of water to run under, dart through, sit under, or squirt at friends.
  2. The large pavilion is the perfect place to spread out in the shade while keeping your kids in full view. There are no benches or tables yet, so bring towels or camp chairs to relax comfortably.
  3. There is a small, adjacent playground for kids to slide and swing when they want to dry off for a bit. Kids love the novelty of playing while soaking wet. Parents will love that the playground extends the time kids want to stay and play. And of course, the Zahra Baker All Children’s Playground is just a one minute walk up the hill.
  4. A low wall around the splash pad area is perfect for parents and caregivers to sit and watch the splashing antics. The splash pad has great visibility, so you can easily keep track of your children. The entire splash pad area is in full sun, so be sure to bring sunscreen and hats to protect your family.
  5. There are bathrooms close by. Enough said.

Here’s what local moms and kids have to say about our amazing new splash pad:

  • “It doesn’t disappoint! It was a great way to cool off on a hot summer day, and my kids were exhausted afterwards!”- Melinda H., mom of 3
  • “My boys are thrilled with the new splash pad. They were especially enamored with the giant dumping bucket and the ‘water jail’ that surrounds them with a ring of water sprays and effectively traps all ‘bad guys’.” –Carmen E., mom of 2
  • “This is the most awesomest place in our whole town!” –Max E., 5 years old
  • “I can’t believe how great it is! I love all the different ways to get splashed!” –Kenna W., 7 years old
