Get the kids into an Olympic spirit by creating salt-dough medals to wear as you cheer for your favorite athletes.
What You Need:
- 1 cup salt
- 1 cup flour
- 3/4 cup water
- acrylic paints in gold, silver and bronze
- paint brushes
- ribbon
What To Do:
- Combine the flour and salt in a mixing bowl and add water gradually. Knead it until it gets a dough-like consistency. If it's too sticky, add more flour. If it won't hold together, add more water one teaspoon at a time.
- Shape salt dough into a circle about one centimeter thick. I used a mason jar lid to help shape it, but cookie cutters or other household items work great, too.
- Using a straw, poke a hole at the top (this is where the string will go through).
- Press a 1, 2, and 3 into each shape. I used molds from a Play-Doh® kit.
- Place onto a baking sheet (I also used wax paper to help keep it from sticking) and bake for about 2 hours at 200 degrees, turning once during "baking."
- Once they have cooled, it's time to paint.
Now your medals are ready to wear with pride!
