25 Things to Do During Screen-Free Week

Screen-Free Week is 7 days all about taking a break from digital entertainment and spending more time with family and friends, getting outdoors and being more active and creative. 

Research shows that children’s screen time exceeds public health recommendations and that excessive use of digital devices can lead to health and wellness problems, including poor school performance, childhood obesity, sleep disturbance, and attention problems. Sometimes it's easy to forget that there are other things to do besides spending time with our devices, or it has just become a habit to use them, so this international celebration helps to remind us to step away from the screens to do other things.

Here are just a few ideas to get you started:

1. Take a walk/hike
2. Read a book
Learn something new:
    3. How to juggle
    4. How to knit/crochet
    5. How to paint
    6. How to garden
    7. How to cook
    8. How to do the laundry
9. Practice your handwriting
10. Try a new sport
11. See how many Little Free Libraries you can find in your town
12. Have a picnic
13. Clean out your closet
14. Plan and then take a long bike ride (pack a lunch too!)
15. Make your own musical instruments
16. Teach someone else how to do something cool you can do
17. Race your friends
18. Ask an adult about yard games they played when they were kids
19. Make slime
20. Help someone in need
21. Weed a garden/flower bed
22. Volunteer at a nursing home
23. Organize your room
24. Ask your parent/guardian how you can help them
25. Play a board game with your family or friends
