Featured Summer Program ~ Ann Freeman Dance Academy

April 12, 2018

Ann Freeman Dance Academy has been a part of the Greater Hickory area for 58 years. Our motto, where dance is not only an art but an education,“ has been our guideline for all of those years. Founded by Ann Freeman and now continued through daughter Jackie Olson, AFDA strives to develop not only the student's technique but also the knowledge of the history of the art of dance as well as the possibilities and future for dance in a very modern world. We teach a strong base of ballet classes along with classes in tap, jazz, modern/lyrical, contemporary, hip-hop and acro for dancers.

At AFDA, we realize that in order to "stay strong" you need to continue your training through the summer months. We offer two types of fun and open classes for busy students throughout the summer:

  • Our "Stay Strong" Drop-In Technique Classes are offered in June-August for 2nd graders through adults on an open basis. The classes focus on continuing a student's dance education and improving technique in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, lyrical, contemporary, musical theatre, hip hop and acro, among others. No pre-registration is necessary for these classes.

  • Our AFDA "Summer Dance Experiences" are one-day events for the younger student to experience dance in many different ways. 3-9 year-olds may choose from fun themes offered at two different times for flexibility for busy families. These experiences include dance, music, crafts and a snack. For the 5th-12th grade dancer, there is our Teen and Senior Summer Dance Intensive held for 4 days with guest teachers from around the country. Students receive training in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hip-hop, modern, pilates, acro and musical theatre.

Dance isn't a sport that has a 3-month break; to "stay strong" is our goal with our summer dance events.
