May 30, 2017

The Hickory Chapter of Trout Unlimited will be hosting a FREE Kid's Fly Fishing Day on Saturday, June 3, 2017 from 11am to 3pm at the Wilson Creek Visitors Center in Caldwell County. Hickory Trout Unlimited is providing this event for families as a means to educate and involve young people in Trout Unlimited's mission to protect, conserve and restore North Carolina's cold water resources.

Events scheduled for the day include fly casting instruction, fly tying, bugs in the water - entomology, reading the water to find fish, fly fishing knots and trout identification. Registration is free for youth ages 11-16 and will be held starting at 10:45am at the Visitors Center located at 7805 Brown Mountain Beach Rd. in Collettsville. A free t-shirt will be given to the first 100 youth who register. All kids who register will be placed in a drawing for an Orvis fly rod and a few other prizes. The drawing will take place at 2:50 PM and winners must be present to win. Registration for the event also includes a free hotdog and drink for the registered child and his or her immediate family members in attendance, while supplies last. A trophy will be presented to the Middle School with the most students in attendance.

The event is being organized for youth and families to learn about fly fishing and the opportunities that families have to enjoy the great outdoors together.
