Swing into Fun at Catawba Meadows Park

By Iris Hartness, Maiden NC Mom and MacKid Guest Writer June 28, 2017

If your kids are looking to live out their “American Ninja Warrior” dreams, the adventure park at Catawba Meadows Park in Morganton is a must-do for your summer bucket list. Nestled in the foothills of Burke County, Catawba Meadows Park boasts an incredible two-story play space that marries a multi-age play structure with an obstacle and ropes course designed and installed by neighboring Beanstalk Adventures.

My three year old and six year old loved every minute of our recent visit to this woodsy wonderland. After working up their nerve trying a few of the smaller features, my kids were happily jumping on the second story nets, down the slides, and across the balance beams. Their favorite feature by far was the zipline swing, and we could have easily spent quite a while playing if we had not decided to go on a rather hot day (the adventure park itself is in the open, but there are shaded areas within the structure).

In addition to rope challenges, it has suspended hammock-like nests, a mini climbing wall, several slides, bridges and tunnels that all added up to big fun. Other guests of the park were in their early teens and were thoroughly entertained on the suspended and springy second story net structures. In addition, the bathroom facilities were well maintained, and two large picnic shelters looked perfect for a lunch break. A parking lot adjacent provided plenty of spaces, and the rest of the 230-acre park had many other amenities including a disk golf course, sand volleyball courts, and a greenway trail.

The park is located at 220 Catawba Meadows Dr. in Morganton and is a thirty-minute drive from Hickory. There are plenty of great restaurants and shops in Morganton that would round out a trip for anyone out of town. For a swinging good time, be sure to add Catawba Meadows Park to your summer fun agenda.
