Local Places to Pick Your Own Blueberries

Blueberries are a favorite summertime fruit with a harvest season that peaks in Western North Carolina in July. One of few fruits native to North America, blueberries are not only popular but also very nutritious. Ranked as one of the highest sources for antioxidants and rich in fiber and vitamins C, K and manganese, blueberries are one of the most nutrient-dense foods in the world. Their health benefits include combating aging, boosting the brain, fighting cancer, supporting digestion, promoting heart health, benefiting the skin, and aiding weight loss.

Picking blueberries is a fun summertime activity. While the fruit can be found growing wild in the North Carolina mountains and along the Blue Ridge Parkway, here are some local family-friendly farms to visit this summer for pick your own blueberries in Western North Carolina. While the season generally lasts through the month of July and into early August, we always encourage you to check availability and opening times at each farm before heading out.

  • Smith Blueberry Farm
    7596 Greedy Hwy in Hickory - (828) 308-3686
    The farm began in 2013 with 625 plants and five varieties. They span the growing season and produce early as well as late berries. The picking season usually runs from mid-June thru early August.

  • Ira Cline Farm
    4444 Lee Cline Road in Conover - (828) 464-5942
    Blueberries are ready around mid-June through August. Picking containers are provided and ready-picked berries are available.

  • Perry's Berry's
    1136 Browning View Rd in Morganton - (828) 432-7631
    Blueberries are the main crop here at Perry's Berry's, with over 2,400 bushes that ripen mid-June and last through July. We provide buckets for picking, take-home containers for your berries and have pre-picked blueberries available at our farm store along with jams, jelly, honey and ice cream.

  • Townsend Farms
    4810 Freemason Road in Hudson - (828) 728-9191
    Our Blueberry patch consists of approximately 75 bushes; Watch for yellow signs to guide you or call. Blueberries are usually available for u-pick starting mid-July and containers are provided for picking.

  • Campbells Berry Farm
    27 Tracy Bolick Lane in the Bethlehem community of Hickory - (828) 598-0707
    You'll find 2,700 blueberry plants at this new farm in Alexander County, with harvest from mid-June into August. You can buy pre-picked blueberries or pick-your-own; hands-free picking buckets will be available.

  • Brushy Mountain Berry Farm
    7493 NC highway 16 S in Moravian Falls - (336) 414-9958
    Fresh, healthy and delicious blueberries available June-August and seasonal fruits/veggies available for U-Pick and Pre-Pick in a beautiful idyllic mountain setting with a farm market, concessions and a picnic area.

  • Greene's Blueberry Patch
    6989 Junaluska Rd in Boone - (828) 773-1451
    We have 235 blueberry bushes. They normally start to ripen around the 2nd week of July through the end of August. Come spend the morning or afternoon on our farm to pick blueberries, enjoy a picnic on convenient picnic tables or simply take in some fresh air.
