Do your kids like to play pretend? Do they set up grocery stores and vet offices in your living room? My kids are 2, 5, 6 and 8 years old, and they love imaginary play. So after hearing about KidSenses in Rutherfordton, an interactive museum dedicated to imaginary play, we knew we wanted to go!
Each area of KidSenses is dedicated to a different type of pretend play. My kids spent most of their time playing the small-scale grocery store, tending pets in the veterinary office, and cooking up delicious pretend meals in the restaurant. Other areas included a stage, a fire station with a firetruck, a news broadcasting station, and an art room called Creation Station. The most thrilling exhibit was the Bubble-Ology room, where kids can experiment with blowing bubbles in different ways, even creating a bubble large enough to stand inside!
The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the whole museum was tidy and well-organized. KidSenses is two stories, but an elevator makes it easy for strollers to get downstairs. They also have a traditional staircase, but my kids chose the most fun option to get up and down- a rope climbing structure!
There was a large play area, Alphabet Trail, reserved for children 4 and under, which I could see being perfect for non-walkers or on days when there are a lot of big kids playing in the main areas.
Our family brought a picnic lunch and ate across the street from KidSenses at a picnic bench, as there is no food or drink allowed inside the museum. Visitors are allowed re-entry all day long, so it was easy to go eat lunch and then come back in for more play time.
We're sure your family will love it too!
