Relax, Destress, Heal and Recharge at Salinity

By Anna Hall, Macaroni Kid Hickory Publisher September 26, 2017

Wake up. Make breakfast. Prepare school lunches. Drive kids to school. Work. Sit through meetings and phone calls. Grocery shop. Do laundry. Clean and tidy up the house. Take kids to soccer practice, art lessons, book club and dance. Cook dinner. Help kids with homework. Pay bills. Catch up on social media and answer emails... As a work from home mom, this is what my typical day looks like, plus a million other tasks thrown in between.

We moms are always on the go, taking care of the family, putting ourselves last. Especially in the fall, our lives are busy and our calendars quickly fill up with appointments, tasks, activities and events; rarely is there a chance to schedule some much needed "me" time. But all this running around leaves us feeling tired, stressed, frazzled and puts a real strain on our health.

The other day, in between appointments and errands, I found myself with some free time that amounted to about an hour to kill in Viemont. Having recently heard of a salt spa that just opened up in Hickory, I decided to check it out and walked into Salinity for a 45 minute salt therapy session.

Salt therapy is known world-wide for its health benefits, specifically as a remedy for various respiratory ailments, skin conditions and mental health issues such as allergies, asthma, ear infections, eczema, psoriasis and even depression. Salt's anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties make it a natural and safe treatment with long lasting benefits.

At Salinity, 12,500 pounds of Himalayan salt line the walls of the salt room while pure salt vapor is released into the air. The room is climate controlled and maintains a constant temperature of 68 degrees with 40% humidity. Lounge chairs draped with cozy blankets accommodate 8 people at a time. No special preparation is required for therapy; guests simply walk in for a session in their street clothes. Dimmed lights and soothing music add to create a relaxing atmosphere that works together with the salt to relax, destress, heal and rejuvenate.

One session at Salinity's salt room changed the course for the rest of my day. I walked out feeling tranquil, collected and energized. I tackled the rest of my to-do list with an overall feeling of peace, calmness and relaxation. I had more patience and gratitude; having just taken care of myself, it was easier to take care of others. I felt recharged, invigorated and focused on the tasks ahead. This is one appointment I'll gladly add to my calendar weekly!
