Playtime and Picnics at Taylorsville's Matheson Park

By Shelly Cain, Hickory NC Mom & MacKid Guest Writer June 5, 2018

Matheson Park is a quiet park nestled between 3rd Avenue and 1st Street in the town of Taylorsville, NC. It is within walking distance of many parts of town and can provide a fun picnic spot or a local escape for an afternoon of outdoor play. The park first opened in 1998, and some of the playground equipment was updated in the Spring of 2018.

The new equipment is tons of fun for kids, and the large climbing rock is something different to play on for the older kids. My daughter loves the swings. The play area is sandy, so I try to always make sure that we wear sandals or shoes that are easy to clean.  Some kids just love to simply play in the sand! There are shady spots to read or watch the kids play.

In addition to the playground area, there is a half mile walking path that surrounds the park/play area. Walkers can take a large circle (0.5 mile) around the entire park area or just circle around the playground and restroom areas. There is a sand volleyball court for teenagers and adults to enjoy. The park also boasts six shelters and some cookout areas that can be reserved by the public for parties or get-togethers. For reservations or additional information, contact the Town of Taylorsville at 828-632-2218.
