Adventures in RVing: On the Go in Kentucky

By Anna Hall, Macaroni Kid Publisher, Hickory NC September 18, 2018

Last year, when GoRVing invited us to try out the Minnie Winnie camper, we got a taste of the RVing lifestyle and had a fabulous time in the Smoky Mountains of TN. This time, in our quest for the perfect recreational vehicle for our family, we decided to try a camper trailer. After a quick search on outdoorsy.com and a simple booking process, we rented the ideal one and set off on an adventure.

We had no firm plans in mind, no itinerary, no reservations. We hit the road westbound and decided to see where it would take us as we went along. We made it to Bowling Green, KY, after a flashback from my previous visit to the Corvette Museum there peaked my daughter’s interest. We set up at a beautiful site at a state park on a lake and also tied in a tour of Mammoth Cave National Park, the longest known cave system in the world.

Then off we went to Louisville, parking at a KOA with lots of amenities for kids to enjoy in between sightseeing, museum visits in town and distillery tours on the Bourbon Trail.

Lastly, being the avid nature lovers that we are, we found one more state park where to explore some of Kentucky’s best waterfalls, along with a side trip to Sanders Cafe, the original KFC restaurant location.

We returned home after 8 jam-packed, diverse and exciting days even more motivated to enjoy the RV lifestyle more often, perhaps even pursue it full-time someday. What attracts us is the freedom, the flexibility, the simplicity and mostly, the connection with the great outdoors. I can’t wait to see where our next camping adventure takes us!
