Flashlight Corn Maze & Fall Fun at Saunders Family Farm

By Rochelle Walton, Hickory NC Mom & MacKid Guest Writer October 7, 2018

Last weekend, right before dark, we loaded up the kids and headed to Saunders Family Farm on Hwy 127S in Mountain View in Hickory. They have a great little country store, selling lots of goodies including jelly, cheese, mums and pumpkins in all shapes and sizes. My husband and I enjoyed looking around, but my kids weren’t there to shop. They were there for the corn maze. In the dark. Past bedtime. With flashlights. Basically, the ultimate kid adventure!

We headed in confidently and let the kids lead the way through the twists and turns of the maze. It's just the right amount of tricky, and I’ll admit, we had to retrace our steps several times. We got especially lost near the middle of the maze and it was neat to see our kids use landmarks, the tree line, and even the position of the stars to figure out a way out.

The night was cool, but we were grateful to have packed a water bottle. The trails were well-mowed and easy to find and follow, even for our three-year-old. The maze took us about an hour and a half to work our way through, but we made it out with exhausted but very happy and proud kids! After we picked out and purchased the perfect pumpkin, we loaded up and immediately started planning our next trip to the corn maze!

If your family is up for some evening corn maze fun, check out Saunders Family Farms every weekend Fridays and Saturdays 5pm-10pm, Sundays 2pm-8pm through October 31, 2018.

Saunders Family Farm is hosting a Fall Festival on October 13th, 2018 starting at 9am, complete with a flat footin’ competition, five guest bluegrass bands, apple butter making, vendors and more! It sounds like a great way to build community and have family fun. The farm also makes a great place for your fall family photos so be sure to visit soon!
