Fun, Feast & Adventure at Pirate's Voyage in Myrtle Beach

By Anna Hall, Macaroni Kid Publisher, Hickory NC October 28, 2018

“Shiver me timbers!” exclaimed my teenage daughter as we entered the main hall at Pirate’s Voyage, a live dinner show we were attending while on a recent visit to Myrtle Beach. She snickered at her clever use of some of the pirate lingo we had just picked up at the pre-show but I could tell by the look on her face that she really was impressed.

The setting was truly striking; the large lagoon of water in the center of the immense room hosted two life-size pirate ship sterns at either end. A platform made to look like the deck of a ship was in the middle. Ushers and servers in colorful pirate costumes were scattered throughout the stadium-sized indoor arena, ready to assist and meet guests’ needs. We walked along the sides of the room, then down the tiered levels to our seats and marveled at the spectacular and unobstructed view before us, excited for the show to begin.

Led by Captain Blackbeard, the most famous pirate to ever sail the seven seas, and his Quartermaster Calico Jack, the storyline centers around an epic battle for lost treasure. The audience is engaged by rooting for their team determined by the side of the room they are seated on, as Crimson and Sapphire crews compete for the bounty. It’s an entertaining and exciting production filled with acrobatics, aerial and water stunts, pyrotechnics, theatre lighting, live animals and colorful mermaids, comedy, dancing, singing and non-stop action.

During the two hour show, a four-course pirate feast is served featuring Voyager Creamy Vegetable Soup, Buccaneer Bread, Half O’ Roasted Cackler (Chicken), Captain BBQ Pork, Cob O’ Buttery, Pirate Herb-basted Potato, Apple O’ Me Eye Pie and drinks with free refills. Vegetarian & Gluten-Free Meals are available by request. The food is plentiful and tasty.

The attraction is filled with entertaining and interactive experiences which begin even before the dinner show. At Pirate's Village, the waiting area outside of the main dining hall, the highlight is a pre-show with sing-alongs, juggling, balancing acts and various performances, including one by a sea lion! Kids can "join the crew" with a make-over to become a pirate or mermaid with face painting, costume accessories and flags. Pirate themed beverages and snacks are available. The gift shop is open before and after the dinner show for purchasing some pirate's treasures, from souvenirs to accessories, and even bags of Creamy Voyager Soup Mix to enjoy the flavor at home.

Pirate’s Voyage is fun for all ages. My teen enjoyed it as much as we did and we saw visitors ranging in age from littles donned in pirate patches and mermaid tales to seniors waving their team’s pirate flag all enjoying themselves. It’s a great multi-generational experience and an awesome opportunity to make treasured family memories at “the most fun place to eat” while at Myrtle Beach!
