An indoor, climate-controlled water park provides splashes no matter what weather is outside! To celebrate my daughter’s birthday, we headed to Ray’s Splash Planet in Charlotte for a day of water fun. Less than an hour from Hickory, Ray’s Splash Planet is a great destination in rain or shine because it is indoors and climate controlled (think low-cost mini Great Wolf Lodge). We first stopped at a favorite coffee shop to fuel up--caffeine for the adults and muffins for the littles. Then, we headed to Ray’s to suit up and get wet. My kids loved the fountains and slides, and my husband and I were impressed with the level of safety and cleanliness. A one-of-a-kind indoor waterpark owned and operated by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, Ray’s Splash Planet has a wide-range of water fun for all ages. A zero-entry pool opens up to the Saturation Station with plenty of fountains and four slides that are perfect for smaller splashers. For more thrills, The Blue Comet is a three-story slide that bigger kids will love (must be 48 inches tall to ride). Relax in the lazy river or take a swirling spin around The Vortex high-current pool.
The facilities are well maintained and well staffed with plenty of lifeguards keeping a watchful eye. Locker rooms are available and included a family bathroom. Small valuables can be secured in complimentary lockers, and a selection of snacks and drinks are available for purchase. Picnic tables are also available outdoors for warmer months, and a wristband allows for reentry. Be sure to call ahead to see if there are special promotions or discounts.
