Meet the Families that Are Proud to Be SSLS Warriors

St. Stephens Lutheran School Hosts Open House 2/26

February 14, 2019

Are you considering private education for your child?  If so, you are not alone.  According to the State of North Carolina, last year, over 1,600 kids in Catawba County were enrolled in private education.  When you're looking to make the change to private education, there is much to consider.  Today, we will meet two moms who were at the same crossroads before they chose St. Stephens Lutheran School for their kids.

Jaime Powell is a mom from Hickory who had considered private education for her children.   While there were several options around the Hickory area, she and her husband wanted to make the best decision for their kids, and Christian education was important to them.  We caught up with Jaime about choosing St. Stephens Lutheran School and why she's glad she did.  "I love SSLS because students receive a quality education in an environment where they are taught the Bible and respect for God and their fellow man," she shared.  As a mom of two, knowing her kids' teachers had their best interest in mind was also a priority.  She went on to say, "the teachers and faculty are genuinely interested in the well-being, education, and instruction of the students at St. Stephens Lutheran."

But, Mom is not the only one who is happy in the Powell household.  Colton, her 8-year-old, was eager to share that he loves SSLS because "the teachers make learning fun!"  When a second-grader is excited about going to school and feels learning is fun, a parent can trust that their family is at the right place!  The Powells are proud to be St. Stephens Lutheran Warriors.

We also spoke with Erin Gatton, a mother of two, who is also a proud Warrior mom.  For Erin, selecting St. Stephens Lutheran School was a choice she could make from experience.  As a former SSLS student, she knew the friendships her girls would make during their school career would last a lifetime.  Like the Powells, Erin also wanted to know kids would be the teachers' first priority.  Erin shares, "the love these teachers portray for our children is immeasurable."  And, with daily emails from her daughter's Kindergarten teacher, she never has to wonder how her day went.  She has an open line of communication and knows she can always raise a question if needed.

When we asked the Gatton girls what they love about SSLS, Ava, a six-year-old shared, "I like learning, and how the teachers take care of me."

Addison Gatton, Erin's third-grader, gave high praise to Ross Chiles, St. Stephens Lutheran School's Principal.  "I like how we get to learn to play chess from Mr. Chiles," Addison shared, enthusiastically.  Erin added, "Mr. Chiles always thanks parents for entrusting their children with the teachers of SSLS."  With solid leadership from Chiles, an Educational Leadership Doctoral Candidate at Concordia University, Chicago, parents like Erin can be confident that their children will be fully equipped for a successful future.

If you are interested in learning how your kids can become St. Stephens Lutheran Warriors, Tuesday, February 26th, 2019, SSLS will be hosting an Open House for prospective parents.  With a track record of over 70 years of Christian Education, hundreds of families have entrusted their children's education to St. Stephens Lutheran School.  This Open House gives you an opportunity to see first-hand what makes this school different.  If you have ever considered private, Christian education, there's no better way to learn about SSLS than attending this welcoming and informative event.
