The preschoolers at The Children's School at Trinity in Conover, NC have been spreading kindness all year long! This group of thoughtful four- and five-year-olds have been rolling up their tiny sleeves and learning how to serve others and their community in real-life, impactful ways. Under the leadership of Director Cathy Higgins and teachers Tamara Blevins and Christine Hollar, the boys and girls of The Children's School spend their days in imaginative, exploratory play and preparing for kindergarten with multisensory instruction.
And, when they're not making magnetic slime, hosting a puppy visitor, engaging in on-site classes with the Catawba Science Center, or on an adventure in Letterland, they are practicing showing kindness and generosity to one another and their community.
The following are some of the many ways these special kids have been at work:
1) Last fall, The Children's School preschool class created a lemonade stand for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. Raising funds for pediatric cancer research, these hard workers served up lemonade as sweet as their smiles. And, the participants learned the importance of thinking of others above themselves. Surrounding neighbors, as well as family and friends, came by to buy a cup and support a great cause.
2) Kindness is in bloom! Making handmade flowers was another way the kids have shown kindness. One-of-a-kind flowers were created to honor the hard work of many of the folks who help to make The Children's School such a special place, like Rev. Peggy Stout, Senior Pastor at Trinity Reformed UCC.
3) Special delivery! During "K is for Kindness Week," the students created special works of art to mail their grandparents and to brighten their day. The preschoolers were also given one dollar and were challenged to think of a creative way to share that dollar with someone else (like tape it to a treat at a dollar store for another child to find!).
And, of course, everyday kindness is infused in the school's day-to-day events. Whether sharing during playtime or sharing talents during the annual Thanksgiving Program, the kids of The Children's School know without a doubt "sharing is caring!"
