Step Right up: the Science Carnival is Rolling Into Town

NC Science Festival is happening now

The NC Science Festival takes place during the month of April and is a celebration of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and its impact on North Carolina.  The largest science festival in the nation, the NC Science Festival is produced by Morehead Planetarium and Science Center and is presented by Biogen.

Locally, families have several opportunities to celebrate science:

⭐ STEM Trek & Oak Ridge National Laboratory Science Fair
Saturday, April 13th, 2019
9:00 am - 3:00 pm

The Oak Ridge National Lab SCIENCE FAIR (one of only 2 sites in NC) will be bringing six carnival trailers:

1) Become a Neutron
2) Extreme Science
3) Get into Green
4) Tiny Atoms, Big Science
5) What's Your Problem?
6) Supporting Research.

The Growing A Green Future Event will also be occurring during this time as well.

⭐ Statewide Star Party at Conover Branch Library

Discover the secrets of the moon through telescopes, games, and stories. An exciting afternoon of moon-related, hands-on activities

⭐    Statewide Star Party at Lake Norman State Park
Friday, April 12, 2019
6:30pm - 9:30pm

Star light, star bright, join us to look at some stars tonight!!! Join the ranger staff and volunteers for our Star Party! We will be playing star games and looking at the stars through telescopes. Meet in the Swim Beach Parking Lot for this event.

⭐  NC Gravity Games and Feet Off the Street Fest in Downtown Lenoir

The NC Gravity Games are an opportunity for students to engage with STEM in a fun and hands-on way, as they design and build gravity-powered cars, then race them through the streets of Lenoir. 

⭐  Macro-Invertebrate Study at Lake James State Park

11:00 AM

Come discover the many hidden animals that call Paddy's Creek home.  Armed with nets, seines and buckets, participants will collect crustaceans, fish, amphibians and more!  Wear clothes to get wet or waders!
