A Quick Drive to Endless Summer at Jellystone Park™ Golden Valley

By Iris Hartness, Hickory-W Piedmont Macaroni Kid Publisher Mom August 8, 2019

Every year, it seems the summer goes by faster than the year before.  This year, in particular, my family's summer has seemed to fly by much too quickly.  If you can relate and are looking to make some last-minute memories, I highly recommend a visit to Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort Golden Valley in Bostic, NC.  Bostic is 50 minutes from Hickory, NC and only 35 minutes from Morganton, NC, making newly renovated Golden Valley the perfect day trip (or more!) for local families.

SUMMER FUN
It has always been my dream to take the whole family to a Family Camp, so we decided to try out the idea with a "Family Day Camp."  The camp-resort was the perfect location to try out a camp experience.  We opted for a Day Camp Pass, rather than an overnight stay, and the amenities were remarkable! Just check out what Jellystone Park™ Golden Valley offers visitors:

  • Yogi Bear's Water Zone: 165-foot long water slides, two kiddie slides, 13 water blasters, two water cannons and 750 gallon hydro storm bucket were the ultimate way to cool off.  My kids could have spent the entire day in the Water Zone.  There were plenty of umbrellas, lounge chairs and seating around the enclosed area, so parents could relax while the kids played.
  • Ranger Smith™ Pool: Swimming and relaxing at the pool and hot tubs was the perfect summer experience. Summer tunes filled the air, and parents could relax knowing staff was on duty helping to keep everyone safe.
  • Pond Beach and Water Rentals: Stand up paddle boards, kayaks, canoes and pedal boats were available to rent for a nominal fee (or included with a Fun Pass--read on to learn more).  The pond also had swimming in the designated Swimming Hole and beach front areas.
  • Jump Pad: This huge pillowy inflatable was lots of fun for the kids, and the adjacent playground was also a big hit!
  • Creekside Cafe and Camp Store: We needed a quick meal and a scoop of ice cream, and the Creekside Cafe was the place to go refuel.  We had a small problem with our meal order, and the staff went over and beyond to be sure it was corrected and that we were happy.  I was really impressed with the customer service of the cafe staff, as well as the entire staff at the camp-resort the whole day through!

  • Mini-Golf: The beautiful creekside 18-hold miniature golf course was the perfect ending to an amazing day of fun!
