2nd Annual Diaper Drive

Helping Moms & Babies in your hometown

February 27, 2020

Did you know that a baby will use roughly 3,000 diapers a year? Of course, you did! You're a parent! Did you also know that a single mom working a full-time job at minimum wage will spend roughly 5% of her take-home income on diapers and wipes alone? Did you know that families who struggle financially actually end up paying more for diapers? Yep- it's true. Everything is cheaper in bulk and having to purchase diapers in smaller amounts means paying more per diaper.

I cannot tell you how many times I've seen moms post on Facebook looking for a handful of diapers to make it until payday: and hey, I've been there myself.  Why? The largest federal assistance programs designed to help low-income families don't cover diapers or wipes.

Why not just use cloth diapers?

Even if a low-income family had a good supply of cloth diapers there are still obstacles to overcome. Many don't have a washer or dryer at home, and most laundrymats won't permit washing cloth diapers in their machines. Not to mention cloth isn't widely accepted at daycare centers.

How you can help:

This is the second annual diaper drive for the city of Hickory.  With help from the community over 1,000 diapers were donated last year to mothers and babies in need in our area. We know we can blow that number away with help from you. We are asking you to bring any brand diaper in any size to one of our drop-off locations listed below. All donations will be taken to the Women's Resource Center.

Drop Off Locations:

Burn Boot Camp
950 2nd ST NE, Hickory
March 2nd - March 7th

The Hub at Hickory Crossing
210 Main Ave Way SE #112, Hickory
9 AM - 4 PM, Now - March 27th

Help us collect! Set up a drop-off in your own office, at your church or with your friends. Do you have large amounts to be donated? Email me Carlaw@macaronikid.com to make arrangements. Questions? Email the drive founder Emily Leagon at enleagon15@gmail.com
