Milkweed Seed Bombs

Join your library friends to make a nutrient-rich milkweed seed bomb to take home and plant! Learn about the cold stratification process, monarch butterfly migration, and how to prep your seeds for planting. This program is for all ages but registration is required.

Teen Wearable Art Workshop

Teens are invited to learn art techniques from local artist Melissa Crosson for creating your own fabric-based art projects from sneakers, to shirts, to canvas bags. In this workshop, we will be designing canvas bags but teens are welcome to bring in white canvas sneakers to design if interested. Canvas bags and paints are supplied by the library. This program is recommended for teens 13-18 years of age. Space is limited so registration is required.

Virtual Spring Cooking Class

April from Catawba County Cooperative Extension will teach how to cook seasonally & healthfully using spring ingredients. This class is completely virtual and can be enjoyed from the comfort of your home where you can cook along with April. An ingredient list will be provided if you would like to cook along. Bee(STEAMED) and pollinate on!

Learn about the idiosyncrasies of one of nature’s best pollinators and create your own bee hotel to help bees thrive and pollinate on! This program is recommended for kids ages 5 and up. Registration is required.

Kids Billboard Art Workshop

Melissa Crosson, a local Hickory artist, will give kids a lesson in how to convey a message through painting and emulate a mini-billboard, using a 4x12” canvas. All materials are supplied but registration is required as space is limited. Crosson’s work can be seen at Lenoir Rhyne Boulevard and US Highway 70, and on I40 W between exits 123 and 121. Hear Melissa talk about her work and learn how to create your own mini-billboard. This program is recommended for kids aged 7 and up.
