Glenn C. Hilton Jr. Memorial Park in Hickory, North Carolina, has always been one of our go-to parks for outside fun. This gem of a park offers a serene and peaceful environment, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. The park features a variety of amenities for park-goers of all ages to enjoy.
The addition of the new playground at has truly elevated the park's overall appeal and experience. This state-of-the-art inclusive playground has transformed the park into a haven for families and children. With its modern and safe equipment, vibrant colors, and engaging play structures, the playground serves as a focal point that draws visitors with kids of all ages. It provides endless opportunities for imaginative play, physical activity, and social interaction.
Families with children will appreciate the convenient location of the new play structure, which offers a safe and enjoyable space for little ones to run, climb, slide, and swing. It is well-placed just north of the main parking and close to the covered picnic area, making it easy to enjoy a meal (or a birthday party) while being close enough to the brand-new play equipment that you can keep a careful eye on your kiddos. While there are many mature trees at Glenn Hilton Park, I love that they added shade covers closer to the playground so parents can sit in the shade and still be close by.
The park also has clean restrooms, although, since the new installation, you do have to cross the park road to use the facilities.
There's an additional playground, a short walk from the lower parking area, that offers slides and swings. The open grass areas provide ample space for games of frisbee or soccer. The 24-hole disc golf course adds a touch of excitement and challenge for disc golf enthusiasts. The lighted and paved walking trail is perfect for strolling, jogging, or biking. The nature boardwalk is a scenic pathway that meanders over parts of Lake Hickory and Horseford Creek, providing visitors with a captivating and immersive experience in the heart of nature.
The park's maintenance deserves commendation, as it is evident that great care is taken to preserve its natural beauty. Cleanliness and the presence of well-trimmed lawns contribute to a pleasant atmosphere, encouraging visitors to spend quality time outdoors.
