Catawba Valley Festival of the Arts Returns

September 29th and 30th

Get ready to dive into the world of art, creativity, and compassion at the Annual Catawba Valley Festival of the Arts. This year is extra special as the CVFA joins forces with the Downtown Newton Development Association and Lenoir Rhyne University's "Art of Compassion" series.

Best of all, all events (with the exception of the House Concert) are FREE and open to everyone! The CVFA is all about celebrating artists, performers, educators, and creative minds from all walks of life.

Past events have been a blast, so you won't want to miss out on this year's festivities. CVFA 2023 Takes Place on September 29th and 30th across various locations in downtown Newton. Here are some things to look forward to:

12 PM: Steel Drum Performance featuring Rick Cline and his students from Hickory Music Factory

"Zazzie Sings" - A Musical Premier

Join us for "Zazzie Sings," a musical about kindness and anti-bullying, featuring the talented Fiely Matias!

Zazzie Sings - A Staged Reading

Where: The Green Room Community Theater Stage
Experience a unique reading of "Zazzie Sings" by our artist-in-residence, Fiely Matias, and his talented troupe of performers.

ZUMBA! 
When: Saturday, September 30th from 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM
Where: Frank & Sue Jones Amphitheatre
Get ready to dance and groove in a lively Zumba session presented by the Catawba County Library system. Featuring the fabulous Honey Estrada!

Kindness Corridor
When: Saturday, September 30th from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM
Where: Kindness Corridor, Historic Downtown Newton
Bring your kids and family for interactive activities, delicious food, art, games, and more! Sponsored by The Partnership for Children, located between The Green Room Community Theater and the Catawba County Library. 

Local Book Fair: Readings & Book Display
When: Saturday, September 30th from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM
Where: The Newton Library
Local authors expose their literary works to the community. Hosted by CVCC Redhawk Publications, our own unique local press that promotes regional authors and artists.

Streetmosphere! - A Street Carnival Of Actors
When: Saturday, September 30th from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM
Where: Kindness Corridor, Historic Downtown Newton
Enjoy the talents of Catawba Valley Community College and Lenoir-Rhyne University students in this lively street carnival.

Hmong Visual Art with Poetic Performance
When: September 30th from 10 AM to 2 PM
Where: The Greenroom Community Theatre
Unique visual art with integrated poetry by emergent Hmong artist Chai Moua. Art will be on display from 10 AM to 2 PM. 

Hickory Ballet & Performing Arts On Stage 
When: Saturday, September 30th from 11:30 AM to 12:15 PM
Where: The Green Room Community Theater Stage
Witness the enchanting magic of classic ballet performed by our talented local students. Learn more about The Hickory Ballet and Performing Arts.

Hmong Traditional Dance 
When: Saturday, September 30th from 12:00 PM to 12:45 PM
Where: Kindness Corridor, In Front of the Green Room Community Theatre
Immerse yourself in the rich culture of our local Hmong Community as young dancers express their traditions through captivating dance and symbolic costumes.

5rhythms: Dance Movement For Everybody!
When: Saturday, September 30th from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM
Where: The Green Room Community Theater Lobby
Discover the joy of dance with the 5Rhythms movement, led by Karen Chapman of Asheville 5Rhythms. No dance experience is necessary—just come with an open heart and be ready to find your inner peace through dance!
