LAST MINUTE GIFT IDEAS FOR MOM

By Anna Hall, Hickory NC Publisher May 8, 2014
One of the best ways to show someone how much you care about them is with personalized gifts.  Home-made or purchased, giving something from the heart involves just a little bit of forethought.  Think about what's important to the recipient, an experience you shared together, a recent life event, a hobby or passion.  Personalized gifts can be sentimental, funny or practical but most of all, they are very meaningful and fun to give.  And they don't always have to be physical items.  Below are a few fun ideas perfect for Mother's Day.

Handmade Gifts
Anything made by the child will be greatly treasured by any mom.  Home-made cards, artwork or crafts make fantastic gifts.  To surprise Mom, have Dad take the child to one of the many craft sessions scheduled around or local area where kids can make something themselves for Mom.  Our calendar contains many fun options!

Home-made Handprint Gifts
What mom doesn't love something with her child's handprint?  Gifts made with an imprint of a child's hand (or foot) are endearing and also fun for kids to make.  You can make t-shirts, aprons, canvas bags, flower pots or cards, as well as many other items, and add clever sayings such as "Best Mom, hands down!" or lovely quotes like "Mothers hold their children's hands for a while... their hearts forever."  Also consider making a dozen roses poster, a family handprint collage or a flower of love.

Photo Gifts
Photo processing services offer a wide selection of gifts made with mom's favorite family photos.  T-shirts, mugs, photo books, calendars, even throw pillows and puzzles are fun options.  Or make a simple scrapbook of your favorite memories shared with mom.

Baked Goods
What mom doesn't love a sweet treat, especially if it was made with love by the kids? This week's easy cake balls recipe makes a nice gift packaged in a pretty candy box.

A Family Experience
Gifts don't always have to be things.  Spending time together is a great way to celebrate the special person in your life.  Go on a family hike, bike ride or day trip; take mom shopping to her favorite store or mall; enjoy a meal at her favorite restaurant.  Giving the gift of time together, making special family memories, is something she will treasure forever.  Look through the fun events on our event calendar, where you will be sure to find something Mom would enjoy.

A Day Off
Moms are on call 24-hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  Why not make it 364 days instead by giving her a day off from the responsibilities.  No cooking, no cleaning, no laundry, etc.  Cater to her needs and expect nothing from her except what she wants to give (or do) this one special day.

Breakfast in Bed
After you let mom sleep in, surprise her with breakfast in bed.  Scrambled eggs and toast with a glass of orange juice are quick and easy to make, and even a cup of coffee or tea with her favorite donut or cupcake would be a nice gesture (check out these adorable daisy cupcakes).  Get fancy with our recipe for crunchy raisin french toast.
